Drawing in color ONSCREEN

The images and vector images you draw using computerized systems such as CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop etc are capable of 16 million color combinations. To achieve high quality visual images when you are designing on screen you need to match 'onscreen to actual'. This may require you to complete the following:
1. Monitor Calibration
2. Hard copy reference
3. Mathematical Reference knowledge of colors.
See E zines for more!

 Trade Term:
Pantone  Pantone ® is a worldwide recognized company that manufactures color reference books.
Each color has a particular number, mathematical formula and system.
Also known as PMS Color (Pantone Matching System Color) See the website for further.

QuickSmart make no reference to ownership of colors.

Trade Term
Solid to Process.
Solid Colors are made from single 'lay downs' of ink, color or pigment.
Process colors are made from multiple colors overlaid to achieve the final color, similar to mixing blue and yellow to achieve green. See E zine

Pantone produce a split color reference book (as seen below) that combines modern color systems equal to Solid and Process Colors. This book is well worth owning.

Each page contains up-to 7 different colors with corresponding color simulations between Solid and Process applications.

How to use colors for the web

To make your website browser friendly, ask your web designer or agency to consider the following:

  1. Choose colors similar to your official company color that are suitable for all people across all platforms.
  2. Choose colors that are not graduated
  3. Choose colors that are recognized 'web safe'
  4. Choose colors that are legible and crisp

The color wheel below shows base system web colors. You can choose more by adjusting color tones, hues, mathematic values and other settings. If you decide your companies color selection with the below color wheel choices, then uniformity can be achieved with offset printing, screenprinting, web, browsers and most other color coordinated business channels.

Variables in Choosing Colors for production

Variables in achieving correct color in production.

  1. Signage:
    a) Background or material substrate stock color. As signage may use large substrates purchased by different mills, each substrate may have a slight difference from batch to batch.
  2. Screenprinting:
    a) Ink manufacture, mixing and compounds may vary from ink supplier and should be carefully inspected after initial set up procedures.
    b) Run Sequence
    c) Artwork Quality
    d) Viewing Conditions
    e) Incorrect screen values
    f) Stock Color
    g) Condition of equipment
  3. Four Color process:
    a) Quality
    b) Run Speed
    c) factors as above

6 Color Printing - Modern Digital printing systems now use 6 color printing. Cyan, Light Cyan, Magenta, Light Magenta, Yellow, Black.

It is also a future trend to see 8 color machinery available in the signage production markets that will produce images in one (1) pass.
